ANA Presentation to Council

Hi All

Item 1:
We have been approved to do a our “Presentation to Council” on Monday January 17th , 7:00pm at City Hall in the Council Chambers. For those who can not attend tune in to Rogers Channel 10 @ 7:00pm

See remarks below from the City Clerks Office

It is my understanding that a staff report is being prepared for early March (March 7, I think by the time they get all the details on Metrolink’s costing).  As a result of the changes to the Council and General Committee agenda topics, we no longer have presentations every week so the next opportunity would be Feb 7th.  The Mayor was hoping to tie it into the staff report timing but when he heard yesterday about the March date, he felt we should allow you to move ahead with your presentation

Dawn McAlpine
City Clerk
Ext. 4421

We hope you can make it out to show support. This is our opportunity to educate and engage our new Council, Mayor Lehman and the general public. We will do a brief intro of our group, followed by Mitchell’s edited slide show depicting the Historical importance of the Allandale-Barrie Rail History to the City, then closing remarks. We are limited to 10 minutes.

Item 2:
The City plans to launch a survey for public input into the naming of the new “Go Station” – see information below
Request: As mentioned last evening the city is going to announce an on-line survey with regard to the naming of the Go Station….will they be suggesting names? or putting forward a few options to choose from? If choosing from…do you know what those options will be?

Response: The on-line survey format will be proposed by staff for Council to adopt prior to the on-line survey being accessible to the public.
At this time, staff envisions that for each of the GO Stations, a few options will be suggested in the on-line survey, plus an extra option to suggest a name for the 2 GO Stations not already listed. We envision 2 or 3 suggested names with a 4th line listed as “Other” to provide the survey responder with that opportunity.

The envisioned suggestions are:

1. For the new GO Station in the Allandale Station Lands:

a. Allandale GO Station

b. Barrie City Centre GO Station

c. Barrie Waterfront GO Station

d. Other:

2. For the GO Station adjacent to the Yonge Street-Mapleview Drive intersection (i.e. Barrie South end):

a. Barrie South GO Station (current name)

b. Painswick GO Station

c. St. Paul’s GO Station

d. Other:

The one primary constraint on GO Station names is that, at most, only one of the GO Station names can have “Barrie” (i.e. both GO Station names cannot have “Barrie” per GO Transit and CN Rail Station Naming protocol/policy).

As a point of clarification, the City is not renaming the Allandale Train Station itself

Item 3

Bridget Brown from ANews sent a link for a survey she thought we might be interested in filling out. Click on link below to open. I’ve already completed mine. downtownbarrie.ca/contact-us

Downtown Barrie, our Barrie needs all the help we can give

Sincerely
Cathy Colebatch & Bill Scott

ANA Meeting 2 November

A reminder that our next ANA Meeting will be on

Tuesday November 2
Unity Christian High School (formerly King Edward Public School)
25 Burton Ave
7:00pm to 8:30

City Staff will be in attendance to update and discuss Ward 8 issues. Gowan St, Go, Train Station Restoration, Park Place, Ossmington, HNS Walkabout etc.

If anyone is able to come a little early to help put out chairs, would be much appreciated.

We could use some help distributing flyers out to the community. Let me know if you are avilable to help over the weekend.

As a reminder we are on a shoe string budget so to speak, we’d like to request a Loonie donation into our Shoe Box …to help cover costs

I will also be inviting our new Ward 8 Councillor Jennifer Robinson.

Hope to see you out

ANA Co-Chairs

Ward 8 Candidates Meeting

Thank you to those of you who were able to assist in delivering flyers about the upcoming Ward 8 Candidates Meeting on Wednesday evening at Unity Christian High School. I printed 600 copies and most have been delivered.

Three items for your consideration.

Item 1

Does anyone have any questions specifically they would like to put forward to our potential Council Candidates on Wednesday evening? If you do, please forward them along to Bill Scott or myself. Simply reply all.

Four of the six candidates have confirmed. Don McNeil, Jennifer Robinson, Alison Eadie, & Don Mclaurin. John Webb and Ghulum Jilani have yet to respond.

Item 2

Mayoral Candidates Debate Oct 19th – see attachment for details if your interested in attending. The debate is free to the public. I will be attending a meeting prior to the debate to vet questions for the debate.

If any of you have questions that you would like put forward for consideration for the Mayoral Candidates Debate, again… please reply all and let Bill and myself know. We will make sure to forward on to the sponsor of the debate.

Item 3

Unity Christian High School will be our meeting place for the next while. Thank You Peter.

November 2 & December 7th will be our next two ANA meetings. We were thinking of doing a PotLuck Dinner event for the December 7th evening. Pre Christmas Celebration, replacement for the Picnic that got cancelled…. Let me know what you think?

Thanks

Hope to hear from you or see you out on Wenesday evening.

ANA Hosts Ward 8 Candidates

The Allandale Neighbourhood Association will be hosting our next meeting on Wednesday September 29th @ 7:00pm-9:00pm at Unity Christian High School (formerly King Edward) 25 Burton Ave.

We have extended an invitation out to all six candidates and have heard back from 3 so far. Jennifer Robinson, Alison Eadie, & Don McNeil. Only sent out the note this morning.

Sorry this is such short notice.

I’m going to have flyers printed up for distribution/hand delivery and would appreciate some help getting them out around Ward 8, not just Allandale.

I should have them printed and ready to go tomorrow afternoon. Even if you can only do a street or half a street anything would help.

This is an important time for Ward 8, our time to determine who will represent us.

Hope you, friends and family can make it out.

Thanks

Cathy Colebatch & Bill Scott

HNS Committee Homework

Hi Folks

Through the HNS (Historic Neighbourhood Strategy Committee) we have been asked to map out areas of concern in Allandale. All neighbourhoods under the HNS Strategy have been asked to do the same.

Bill Scott and myself are planning a walk about through the neighbourhood this Saturday September 25th from 9:00am to noon, to try and identify issues by category.

We would really like your input.

You could either join us on our walk about or if you have areas that you can identify by address/location for each category please let us know.

The City has provided us with maps divided into the categories below:

  • Property Standards – Buildings
  • Zoning By-Law Infractions
  • Parking
  • Traffic Calming
  • Noise
  • Maintenance (roads and sidewalks)

These were all areas of concern identified by the community as quality of life issues. The City is looking to improve and act on these concerns.

Love to hear from you.
